About Utrecht
Utrecht is a historic city in the heart of the Netherlands. Like Amsterdam, this city has beautiful canals. The wharves and wharf cellars along the canals give Utrecht a unique atmosphere compared to other cities. For example, there are many terraces and other bustling spots right next to the Oudegracht. Religion has also played an important role in shaping the city as it is today, with the Dom Tower as the most visible symbol. Notably, the struggle of the people against the bishop left its mark. The bishop decided to dam the main supply route to Utrecht – the Kromme Rijn. The emperor came to the aid of the people by granting city rights, which initiated the digging of part of the Oudegracht and the outer city canal. The wharves did not yet exist, but as trade in Utrecht prospered, more and more wharves and wharf cellars were built along the canal. Perfect for sightseeing during a tour of the city, with the Utrecht Quiz Tour app as your guide.
